Budget Tracking

Adding Expenses

In the trip planner, open the Budget tab:

  1. Click + to add an expense
  2. Choose a category (Accommodation, Transport, Food, Activities, Shopping, Other)
  3. Enter the total price
  4. Optionally set number of persons and days for splitting

Splitting

Field Effect
Persons = empty Total price is shared equally (shown as total)
Persons = 2 Shows per-person cost
Days = empty One-time expense
Days = 5 Splits across days, shows per-day cost

Paid By / Member Assignment

  • Assign who paid for each expense
  • Assign who benefits from the expense (which members it applies to)
  • This data feeds into the settlement calculation

Settlement

The settlement system calculates who owes whom:

  1. Each expense tracks who paid and who it's split between
  2. TREK calculates net balances for each member
  3. Click the Settlement dropdown in the budget card to see optimized payment flows
  4. Click member avatars to mark transfers as paid (green = paid)
  5. Uses a greedy debt minimization algorithm to reduce the number of transfers

Overview

The budget panel shows:

  • Pie chart by category with percentage breakdown
  • Category legend with amount + percentage in a single row
  • Total for the entire trip
  • Per person breakdown

Currency

Each trip has a default currency set when creating the trip. TREK supports 46 currencies including USD, EUR, GBP, JPY, CHF, CAD, AUD, and many more. Zero-decimal currencies (like JPY) are formatted correctly.

CSV Export

  • Click the download icon in the budget panel
  • Exports all items with category, name, date, total, persons, days, per-person, per-day, per-person/day, and notes
  • Respects the trip's currency and locale formatting
